Police Search for Trucker as Suspect in Hit-and-Run that Left Two Hospitalized
Officers from the Michigan City Police Department are seeking help in locating a trucker who was involved in a hit-and-run crash on Tuesday, February 6.
According to police, the victims of the crash were traveling southbound on Hitchcock Street coming up on the intersection of U.S. Highway 20 when they were struck by a semi-truck.
Responders arrived at the scene at approximately 12:59 p.m. and found a heavily damaged SUV with the two victims still trapped inside.
During their investigation, officers discovered that the semi-truck was traveling westbound on Highway 20 when it failed to stop at a traffic light and struck the vehicle. The driver of the truck did not stop or render aid to the victims and continued driving westbound.
Michigan City Police and Porter County Deputies searched the area for a truck matching the description given by witnesses but were unsuccessful.
The truck is described as a blue or teal-blue semi-tractor pulling an enclosed tractor-trailer.
Both victims from the vehicle were extricated and transported to St. Anthony Hospital with serious injuries.
The victims have not been identified.
