Michigan City Police Looking to Fill Animal Control Officer Position

MICHIGAN CITY — The Michigan City Police Department is looking to fill an open full-time position for an Animal Control Officer.

The department is looking for a candidate who will be responsible for responding to complaints about stray animals, investigating and issuing warning tickets or citations, transporting animals to appropriate locations, patrolling the city for strays or packs of dogs, and other duties.

The candidate will also educate residents about animal-related laws, ordinances, and penalties for violations as well as maintaining accurate data and records, cleaning and maintaining City kennels, operating and maintaining all Animal Control Equipment, assisting with snow removal, and helping notify citizens and code enforcement when necessary.

For the position, those wanting to apply must have basic computer knowledge, possess a valid driver’s license, ability to work well with a broad spectrum of the Community, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and be willing to work weekends, holidays, and emergencies as needed.

The work schedule for the position will be from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, however, the schedule is subject to change.

The position is a full-time position that pays $15.88 per hour and includes a complete benefits package.
