MICHIGAN CITY –  High winds in Michigan City are to blame for a downed tree blocking both lanes of County Line Road between East Railroad Avenue and Earl Road.

Anyone traveling in the area is advised to use extreme caution and avoid the area if possible.

“With no lights along the road, it is very hard to see the tree until it is too late,” says one resident.

A high wind advisory was issued Tuesday morning for the Michigan City area which also caused power outages throughout LaPorte county with Nipsco reporting at least 500 homes in Michigan City without power.

Nipsco workers have successfully restore power to most homes and are keeping vigilant to any other issues that may arise due to high winds.
